What Does Series and Parallel mean?
Batteries are connected in series to increase the voltage. The diagrams below show a single cell LP850, a 2 cell LP850 series configuration and and 3 cell LP850 configuration.
Diagram (a.) will have 3.7 Volts and 850mAh Diagram (b.) will have 7.4 Volts and 850mAh Diagram (c.) will have 11.1 Volts and 850mAh

Connecting batteries in series as shown above will combine the sum of the batteries voltage, but the mAh (miliamp hours) remain the same.
When batteries are connected in parallel, it combines the amperage from the batteries but not the voltage.
The Diagram Below will have 3.7 Volts and 850mAh

Sometimes it is necessary to run cells in series AND in parallel.
This combines the two above configurations, running sells in series and then in parallel.
The Diagram Below will have 7.4 Volts and 1700mAh
