Charger in the HFX900 not working.

The first thing to check of course is the batteries, if the AA batteries are to low they will not be able to charge the Lithium Battery. For example if the AA batteries are at 1.0 volt each, you will only have 4.0 volts total, which is more then enough to transmit (so you may think everything is OK) but 4.0 volts is not enough to charge the Lithium batteries to the target 4.2 volts. The total voltage of all 4 AA batteries should be in excess of 5 volts for best performance. If you batteries are too low the LED in the charge bay will not even light up.

Other Problems.

If your LED in the charge bay blinks when you turn on the charger, and then when you connect a battery it continues to blink, showing a steady charge LED only when you fiddle with the battery or press it down - then you probably have dirty battery or charger magnets.

To clean the Battery contacts, cut a round toothpick in half and soak the blunt ends in a capfull of rubbing alcohol. While that's soaking, get out your hobby knife and carefully scour the surface of the magnets in the battery. You don't want to put much pressure on the point of the blade, the weight of the knife handle is sufficient. Swirl the knife point (or other similar tool) on each magnet for 30 seconds each, this will loosen any hard debris that may be caked on there. Now grab one of the toothpick halves and using the blunt end polish each magnet for 30 seconds or so , and then switch to the other half of the toothpick and give the same treatment again. The reason we use the wood and alcohol is because the fibers of the wood will pick up and trap the gritty contaminates and the alcohol will dissolve any fingerprint greases or other residues that could cause a resistive connection.

Cleaning the magnets on the charger is a lot easier because the are not buried in a battery and because the have a nice cover over them most of the time. Most of the time a cotton tipped ear cleaner with some alcohol does the trick. You could also use the point of a hobby knife or even an emery board (lightly) if you feel that they are heavily contaminated.

Cleaning the receiver magnets is pretty straight forward too, You can use a point of a hobby knife (or and emery board) to scour the magnets and then use a cotton tipped ear cleaner and alcohol to dissolve and wipe away the oils and contaminations.

Damage to the charger. If the LED on the charge bay does not light at all and you are sure the batteries are greater then 5 volts, there may be damage to the charger. This can happen if the charger has had reverse polarity applied to the charge contacts. This would need to be returned to Plantraco for repair. Damage caused by applying reverse polarity to the charger is not covered by warranty.
